100 years of Napier RSA Celebrations

Napier RSA

100 year Weekend

December 2nd – 4th 2016       Celebrating our Centenary       1916-2016

We extend an invitation to Members, Guests, Visitors and the Napier Community to commemorate our centenary year weekend in December 2016.

The Napier RSA was founded 100 years ago by local men who saw the need for an organisation to support and assist those soldiers returning from both Gallipoli and the European conflicts. Many were physically and mentally affected by the war and were finding it hard to re-adjust and fit into society.  In 1916 they formed the Returned Soldiers Association a safe, understanding and social environment, far removed from the horrors of conflict.  During the years changes were made to involve the wider community and is now known as a Returned and Service Association (RSA).  Membership 100 years ago was limited to only Returned Servicemen and women, now in 2016 the Napier RSA doors are open to all forces personnel, their families and the entire community.  Together we share remembrance, compassion & camaraderie as a legacy to the past and our tribute to the future. NZ RSAs are a proud part of the fabric of New Zealand society and demonstrate its motto “People helping people”.  The Napier RSA has exceeded the visions of our founding members, and has produced exceptional result with the integrity of their founding objectives which remain as robust as they did in 1916.

We are one of the few RSAs celebrating a centenary, it is because of the ongoing support from members and our wider community which has bought us to this momentous occasion. We take this opportunity to thank all of our members for your continued support.  We are proud to offer this centenary weekend, one that will be an event worthy of remembrance for the next 100 years.
